PETER STANIER lives in Shaftesbury, where he is a freelance lecturer and writer on archaeology, industrial archaeology and landscapes. Peter read archaeology and geography at Southampton University, where he later received a doctorate. His main field of research is stone-quarrying, particularly granite, and has published papers and books on the subject. He is editor of the Association for Industrial Archaeology’s quarterly Industrial Archaeology News. As well as his two books for the Discover Dorset series, his books include Quarries and Quarrying (1985), Dorset’s Industrial Heritage (1989), and Quarries of England and Wales (1995)
