A GUARDIAN FEATURE: 'A Year of Beautiful Books', December 2011
'. . . at Little Toller Books, classic texts of rural writing and illustrations such as W H Hudson's A Shepherd's Life are brought back into beautiful existence with newly commissioned illustrations from contemporary artists. Either that, or the long-forgotten artwork is reunited with the text'.

IN THE COUNTRY
Reviewing In the Country in The Guardian, Victoria Segal wrote, 'In 1970, three years before his death, writer and broadcaster Allsop moved to Milton Mill in west Dorset and started writing the Daily Mail columns collected here. What makes them so engaging is the fact that Allsop is no euphoric rambler. Some of his most striking writing results from his subject matter rubbing up against his ingrained urban attitudes. His love of Blue Vinny cheese predates the obsession with locally sourced produce, whilst his anxiety over the state of the environment echoes down the years.'

THE MILITARY ORCHID
'Jocelyn Brooke's cracklingly bizarre The Military Orchid, a memoir-satire-nature-quest about orchids and home-made fireworks, first published in 1948, and just reissued in a beautiful edition by Little Toller Books.'
Robert Macfarlane in 'Books of the Year'.

AUTUMN LEAVES & GOLDEN DAYS
'A collection of Horse & Hound hunting correspondent David Edelsten's musings on life in the country, with beautiful colour illustrations by fellow Dorset-dweller Becky Unwin. It is another charming read.'

DORSET, A NATURALIST'S COUNTY
'As Sir Frederick Treves observed in 1906: "The County of Dorset is small, but yet so varied in its configuration as to present an epitome of the scenery of southern England". This quote, which opens the introduction to Dorset, A Naturalist's County, remains as true as ever over a century later. Published as part of Dorset Wildlife Trust's 50th anniversary celebrations, the book offers a fascinating insight into the natural history of Dorset - past, present and future.'

SOMERSET STATIONS: THEN AND NOW
'For anyone interested in the county, it is a superb reference book . . . both fascinating and indispensable.'
