LILIAN BOND was born in 1887. Her father inherited the Dorset manor of Tyneham in 1898 and it was there she spent her childhood and adolescence. Tyneham, A Lost Heritage is her account of those years. Although her only book, it quickly won her a host of admirers when it was first published in 1956 and is now widely regarded as a Dorset classic. Following her marriage to Ivo Bond in 1914 she moved to Weybridge and Windsor, only returning to Dorset after her husband’s retirement in 1949. By then Tyneham had been evacuated, and Tyneham, A Lost Heritage was written in response to the many requests that she provide a permanent record of its people and way of life. Lilian Bond died in 1980.
