DIANA SUTHERLAND studied Geology at London University, later researching the volcanic rocks of Eastern Uganda as a part of a team at Leicester University. She edited Igneous Rocks of the British Isles, and in 1992 became Curator of igneous petrology in the Department at Leicester, until retiring in 2001. She has lived in Northamptonshire for over 50 years, for many of which she was a part-time tutor in Adult Education, developing a special interest in the county’s geology and building stones. She is concerned with Regionally Important Geological Sites in Northamptonshire and is a Fellow of the Geological Society. She was awarded the R.H. Worth Prize in 1997.
