PETER LACEY is a retired Youth Worker and Outdoor Pursuits Instructor who lives in Lyme Regis in a house overlooking the Cobb and Lyme Bay. For 12 years he was an Auxiliary Coastguard with the Lyme Regis team. A life long interest in maritime history, prompted him on retirement to research and write numerous articles on the subject for specialist journals and magazines. He is a member of The Society for Nautical Research and The South West Maritime History Society, who in 2008 presented him with an award for ‘Exceptional Research’. As a sea canoeist he has canoed the entire Dorset Coast and much of the South West coastline. In 1999 (aged 66 years) he commenced a lifelong ambition to crew tall ships, and has completed some 6,000 miles of ocean voyaging aboard vessels of various rigs, including a three-masted square-rigged ship.
